Butler Sherborn was established in 1991 by partners David Sherborn-Hoare and Sam Butler. Miles Russell joined them in 1995 and was promoted to full partner in 2001. Since its formation, the firm has expanded its staff from four to 28 and has opened four offices in the Cotswolds: Burford, Cirencester, Stow-on-the-Wold and Tetbury and has an associated office in London.
Butler Sherborn has four main areas of business: estate strategy and management; farm and environmental consultancy; specialist property services and valuations; and residential estate agency and lettings.

David Sherborn-Hoare - Head of Estate Strategy and Management and EBC21
David trained as a land agent and has practised as a strategic consultant and manager of estates since 1979. He specialises in problem solving, retained estate management and business planning. David was educated at Sherborne School and the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, a Member of the Institute of Agricultural Management, and an external advisor to the College of Estate Management at Reading.
Sam Butler - Head of the Residential Estate Agency, Negotiation and Lettings
Sam is a specialist in the valuation, negotiations, sale and purchase of country houses, cottages, farms and estates and oversees the lettings and residential management department. Educated at Eton and the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester, Sam has been based in Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire since 1980. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and an experienced auctioneer.
Miles Russell - Head of Finance and Administration
Miles moved to the Cotswolds in 1986 when he studied at the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester. He has worked in accountancy since 1990 and was formerly at Deloitte Touche, before joining Butler Sherborn. Miles is responsible for finance, personnel, IT and Health & Safety issues and effectively uses his skills to provide a stable platform from which Butler Sherborn’s specialists can provide their wide-ranging services.
