The window for applying for Countryside Stewardship Schemes with a start date of 1 January 2020 opened on Monday 18 February 2019. This includes applications for Higher and Mid-Tier Schemes including Water Quality Capital Grants and Wildlife Offers, as well as Hedgerow and Boundaries Grants.
Countryside Stewardship Application Packs can be applied for ONLINE this year via the Rural Payments Service login.
Please note that the windows for requesting an application pack are not open for that long, and although you may have until later in the year to complete your application, you need to apply for an Application Pack as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
The useful dates for the grants are outlined below:
There are a number of different Countryside Stewardship Schemes that you can choose from depending on what you are looking to achieve. If you have already, or are due to come out of an Entry or Higher Level Stewardship Scheme, and are looking at the options to renew the scheme then the Mid Tier Scheme or one of the Wildlife Offer Schemes may work well.
Alternatively, if you have a stone wall that needs mending or hedges that need planting, there are capital grants/options available that can be applied for. These grants do not need to cover all of your holding.
Some of the schemes are more competitive than others, so it is worth seeking advice as to which may be most suitable for what you are looking to achieve.
Please note that to be eligible for all of the schemes mentioned above, you need to be registered with the Rural Payments Agency.
