A customer’s review of this charming Cotswold pub –
‘The menu was interesting, and tempting with lovely variation and a good choice. We could have chosen any 4 of each course, and had difficulty making up our minds. It was refreshing not to be over faced with a huge choice. The presentation of the food was excellent, and the bream’s skin superb!
Good choice of beer, Bishops Finger, my old Kent brewer’s Shepherd Neame, as well as the local independent Hooky.
The menu was also very well laid out and designed.
The rooms are cosy, quirky, amusing and very well appointed. I was astonished to be told when asked, that they had been refurbished in just 5 weeks.
The Crown has a happy, cosy and genuinely warm feel about it, even on a quiet Monday night.’ Mr Davies February 2020.
Perfect for a cosy winter break, The Crown Inn, Crown Cottage and Studio comprise a gorgeous Oxfordshire village pub with rooms, and self-catering cottage & studio.
This idyllic Cotswold stone village inn, together with accommodation, is owned by locals, Victoria and George Irvine. The couple bought The Crown, their village pub, in May 2018, and opened five new bedrooms upstairs in April last year.
This month has witnessed the launch of a fully refurbished, one-bed, self-catering cottage, ‘Crown Cottage’, and adjoining one-bed Studio, right next to The Crown, and available for bookings together or separately.
George, a renowned local artist, and Victoria chose a fresh, relaxed, contemporary look for the pub and it’s rooms, which are adorned with George’s paintings throughout.
The Crown prides itself on sourcing the best fresh, local produce creating stunning, seasonal menus of modern British dishes with innovative twists, including an a la carte menu. In addition there is a ‘Crown Classics’ menu, and a weekly changing, Sunday lunch menu with two courses for £20, and three courses for £25pp.
There is also a sandwich board menu, together with traditional British desserts and local cheeses. For children, The Crown offers half sized plates of most dishes on the menu.
The Crown’s Bar and adjoining dining spaces, including a conservatory (also available for private lunches, dinners, meetings and events) seat up to 65, with scrubbed pine tables and fresh flowers from the Irvine’s garden. Collections of cookbooks and modern art tomes adorn windowsills, and in the main hallway, a graffitied upright piano accompanies regular singalongs, and at Christmas, carol singers.
The Crown is central to village life and is a real community hub. George and Victoria have a well-trained team of friendly and efficient staff, always ready to welcome locals and visitors to the area, whilst dogs are well catered for with water bowls at the bar.
All the accommodation offered is beautifully appointed and to a very high specification, designed and chosen by George and Victoria. The 5 rooms are named after local villages and offer king sized double beds in rooms with bathrooms, and two of the five can offer twin beds. The Crown Cottage and Studio can be booked together or separately.
Surrounded by glorious Cotswolds countryside, and within close reach of many beautiful Cotswold villages, as well as Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, Moreton-in-Marsh, Stow-on-the-Wold, Stratford-upon-Avon and Oxford, there is a plethora of attractions for the visitor.
