Sophie Keogh - Life as a Senior Negotiator for the Cotswolds Property Specialist - Butler Sherborn - Cirencester office

'Having worked for highly regarded Estate Agents in Prime Central London and the Cotswolds, Sophie understands her client’s needs and offers wonderful client care, whilst being passionate in matching buyers to their dream home. She has a fabulous understanding of the property market and detailed local knowledge of the area.

‘I was lucky enough to grow up in a small village on the outskirts of Cirencester, and have always loved The Cotswolds and everything it has to offer. You'll often find me in Cirencester Park with my beloved Labrador, Ted.

I began my Estate Agency career in Chelsea, London, back in 2011 where I spent a number of fantastic years. However, the draw back to Gloucestershire was too strong and I found myself here again in 2014.

I joined the fabulous Butler Sherborn team in 2019, where I specialise in residential property sales. I work in the Cirencester office alongside Sam Butler, Victoria Sears, Gemma Potter and Mary Plowden. The morale and team spirit in our office is wonderful.’

What brought you initially to the Cotswolds?

‘I was fortunate enough to be born in the Cotswolds! I grew up in Coates and went to school in Cirencester before venturing off to university at Oxford Brookes to study… Equine Science! ‘

How did you become involved in the property industry?

‘I slightly fell into the role! I went to stay with friends in London and whilst waiting for everyone to finish work, I found myself outside a recruitment company on the Kings Road. Upon entering, and by complete chance, I was greeted by a Gloucestershire friend’s sister, who whipped me into her office and said she had a great opportunity for me. She made a quick call and put the phone down smiling. She gave me directions and I trotted around the corner for a swift on-the-spot interview with a national estate agent and was offered the job! I moved to London within the month and started my career in Chelsea dealing with prime central property.’

What aspects of your job do you enjoy the most?

‘There is nothing better than a happy client! Building relationships is an integral part of our job. I thoroughly enjoy working with our clients from start to finish, helping them find the right buyer, at the best price, and to try and ensure the whole process runs as smoothly as possible. House moving is stressful and we always do our best to ensure we are at the end of the phone, and can offer confident and knowledgeable advice when needed.’

Have you had any especially funny, scary or memorable moments working for Butler Sherborn?

‘I am not sure if this is funny or scary… but the one that sticks in my memory was when Sam Butler and I went to see a client who had a pet cockerel. Sweet to look at, but the little bruiser packed a punch. Whilst the client proudly showed us around, the cockerel followed. It jumped onto chairs, windowsills, coffee tables and anywhere he could, to stubbornly peck both Sam and me. At the end of the tour, the cockerel sat proudly on his master’s shoulder with his eyes firmly fixed on the two intruders in his home… ‘

What do like most about the Cotswolds, and where is your favourite place to be within them?

‘In truth, I love it all. You cannot beat riding and walking in Cirencester Park; National Hunt Racing at Cheltenham; cosy village pubs (The Bell at Langford, The Keepers at Quenington and The Crown at Cerney Wick are personal favourites!); wonderful Farmers markets with locally grown produce; garden centres (particularly Nailsworth and Cirencester!); the colours of Westonbirt Arboretum; delightful chocolate box cottages with creamy Cotswold stone; coffees and cakes from Lynwood; paddleboarding in South Cerney and Castle Eaton (when it’s warm!); long walks with Ted (particularly in Chedworth, Adlestrop, Sapperton, Bibury, and Daglingworth); Point To Points (Cocklebarrow, Siddington, Didmarton); how many friends and family come to stay (everyone loves a weekend in the Cotswolds!). ‘

We are a returning client of Butler Sherborn and we would highly recommend them if you’re looking to sell your property. The two properties we sold with BS were very different, but the BS team have always been extremely professional, approachable and friendly. And their communication skills are second to none! Thank you again!
