Cotswold Villages of the Month - The Guitings - Guiting Power and Temple Guiting

Temple Guiting and Guiting Power are two quintessential English country villages, situated in a beautiful and rolling region of the Cotswolds, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Guiting Power, with a busy community including an history society, has a beautiful 12th Century Church, village hall and playing field. It also possesses a village shop with post office and a café, and superb delicatessen and caterer, The Cotswold Guy.
There are two good pubs in the village, The Farmers Arms and The Hollow Bottom. Both are popular with the locals and both quite different in terms of style. The Hollow Bottom has recently been refurbished, and together with a Guest House with rooms, offers a gastro pub experience. It is part of the Dunkerton owned Lucky Onion Group, and has long been patronised by the hard core racing fraternity. The Farmers Arms is a traditional drinkers local, with very heart food to fill one’s belly after a day’s strenuous exercise in the surrounding countryside.
Much of the village is influenced by The Guiting Manor Amenity Trust, which was most recently revised and set up in 1976 by Raymond Cochrane to to ensure the future of the village lands and houses, nature and the environment, character and community of Guiting Power.
The Trust owns and manages about 50% of village’s residential properties and lets them out to local people.
To this end, the Trust offers rental properties, it owns, to local people to enable them to run their businesses. One such beneficiary is Maddy who runs a superb Massage and Beauty studio, ‘Personal Touch’.
Temple Guiting offers a fine old Parish Church, a superb village store with coffee shop, village hall and playing fields.
In addition, Temple Guiting Manor is of important historical interest, and one of the oldest houses in the area. It was originally home to The Knights Templar. Recently it has been extensively restored by Stephen Collins, with the stunning gardens redesigned by Jinny Blom. It now offers a unique home from home experience with the services of a boutique hotel, if required. Set in 14 acres, the accommodation ranges from the edgy industrial Granary to the elegant Manor and Provencal chic in The Barn. The venue also offers
These North Cotswold villages, which also include Naunton, Kineton and Ford are renowned for a friendly, supportive community and offer excellent pubs. Locally there are a number of successful National Hunt racing yards, which adds to the character of the area. This immediate area also benefits from the excellent network of footpaths and bridleways between all these lovely villages, winding through mature woodlands spread across the undulating landscape.
Communications in the area are excellent, with London easily accessible via the A40/M40, and a mainline railway service to London Paddington from both Kingham and Moreton-in-Marsh within a twenty-minute drive from The Guitings.
Sports and leisure facilities include golf at Naunton Downs and Cheltenham. For lovers of the turf, there are famous racecourses such as Cheltenham, as well as Stratford-upon-Avon and Warwick.
There is a popular primary school (OFSTED- good) in Temple Guiting and a new Montesorri nursery in Guiting Power. There is a bus to the very popular and successful Cotswold School (OFSTED - Outstanding).
