The Barnsley Village Festival

This year, we are delighted to sponsor the Barnsley Festival, which was established by one of Britain’s greatest gardeners, the late Rosemary Verey. The festival is cherished by thousands.
Located in the picturesque Cotswold village of Barnsley, which remains an unspoiled corner of England, the festival showcases several examples of her work, including her own stunning garden at Barnsley House Hotel and smaller gardens throughout the village.

Barnsley House, built in 1697 and now one of Britain’s most renowned hotels, continues to honour Rosemary’s legacy by maintaining the garden and her famous potager. The four-acre garden, along with the house constructed from local gold-grey Cotswold stone, is surrounded by tall, beautiful trees that overlook the fields beyond. While typically accessible only to hotel guests, the garden opens its gates to everyone on Festival day.
Just a short distance from the village lies Barnsley Park, celebrated as the finest Georgian house in Gloucestershire, complete with an orangery and a pepper pot lodge designed by John Nash. The stunning gardens that envelope this estate are exclusively open to the public on Festival day. Another highlight of the Festival is the 45-acre Barnsley Arboretum, which was designed by the current Lord Faringdon and planted 30 years ago. This arboretum features 1,600 trees from various furniture woods, including oak, beech, eucalyptus, ash, and maple—along with a thriving collection of snakebark maple. Additionally, it hosts the national collection of bamboo.
The Festival also offers a variety of entertainment, including craft stalls, local produce stands featuring cheese, game, and wines, bell ringing, a barbecue, a licensed bar, and a jazz band, making it a fantastic day out for the entire family!
Date: Saturday 17th May
Open:10am-5pm
Tickets can be purchased directly through the website www.barnsleyvillage.co.uk or email info@barnsleyvillage.co.uk
