Reflection On Light; Vigour and Skills Celebrates the Spring Equinox in the Heart of the Cotswolds With An Exhibition At The Gothic House Charlbury

Charlbury, — Vigour and Skills (V+S) Makers Collection, in partnership with Branch Arts, is set to unveil a captivating exhibition that brings to life the boundless talent, creativity, and artistry that define the Cotswolds. This event marks Charlbury as an idyllic location for celebrating the synchronicity of art and craft, capturing the essence of the Spring Equinox.

Event Details - Exhibition dates:Date: 20 March – 24 April 2024Location: Gothic House, Charlbury, Oxfordshire

About the Exhibition: Opening to mark the Spring Equinox, Branch Arts “Reflection on Light” brings together twelve female artists who respond to light in their practice. As the seasons influence our mood and social interactions, the change of light through the year plays its part on all. This group exhibition will explore individual stories behind the artist’s own relationship with light. Each of the twelve visual artists in this show have been influenced by light in their practice. From Nina Murdoch’s thorough study of light as her subject to Susan Derges whose process relies on exposure to light, the exhibition will be a survey of contemporary artist's response to an age-old inspiration.

As part of the exhibition and within a separate room in the Gothic House the Vigour+Skills Makers Collection will be proud to showcase a diverse range of exquisite craftsmanship, including ceramics, leatherwork, jewellery, basketry, and hand-blown glassware. This part of the exhibition serves as a platform to champion the artisans behind these masterpieces and share their inspiring stories with the world. During the exhibition, 32 carefully curated pieces from our talented makers will be on display, inviting attendees to immerse themselves in the world of skilful artistry and innovation. The exhibition is not merely a display of objects; it is an immersive journey into the passion, dedication, and unique perspectives that each maker brings to their craft.

Featured Makers: Among the distinguished creators featured in this celebration are:

Alvaro Picardo: Renowned for his hand-painted lampshades that seamlessly blend artistry and functionality.Ella Bua-In and Ellie Carr: Ceramicists whose creations are a testament to the timeless beauty of clay.Georgie Tym: A master leatherworker whose skill transforms leather into wearable art.Amanda Rayner: A talented basket weaver whose creations weave together tradition and contemporary design.Shakti Ellenwood: A B Corps registered jeweller, adding a touch of ethical elegance to the collection.

January Market Comment

January has seen us firmly up and running across the Cotswolds. Activity has been encouraging, with positive levels of interest and a busy start to the year. We have already agreed a good number of sales across our three offices in a range of different price points, which is a positive indicator of buyer intent following what was a very cautious 2025, with low confidence and many delays.

Three Quintessential Cotswold Cottages – Full of Character & Charm

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, there’s something undeniably romantic about the idea of escaping to a cosy Cotswold cottage. Think honey-coloured stone walls, crackling log fires and soft lamplight spilling across plush sofas - perfect for long conversations, shared glasses of wine and slow, unhurried mornings. In winter, the Cotswolds reveal a quieter kind of beauty, with misty lanes, frosted fields and snug village pubs just a gentle stroll away. It’s a setting steeped in charm and warmth, and utterly quintessential in its British appeal.

Snowdrops in the Cotswolds: A Winter Highlight at Painswick

As winter begins to loosen its grip on the Cotswolds, one of the most uplifting signs of the changing seasons quietly emerges, snowdrops. These delicate white flowers, often pushing through frost-hardened ground, bring a sense of hope and renewal, and nowhere is this more beautifully displayed than the snowdrops at Painswick Rococo Garden.
