Cosy up in a delightful historic folly this winter - The Castle at Edgehill, Oxfordshire Cotswolds

Perfect for a cosy dinner for two or a big Sunday lunch with family or friends, The Castle at Edgehill, lies in a hamlet on the edge of the most northerly point of the Cotswolds escarpment in Oxfordshire and 300m from the Warwickshire border, with incredible views over an unspoilt rural landscape.
The fields below are famous as the site where Charles 1 once stood and watched the first major battle of the English Civil War in 1642.
The Castle also offers the perfect bolthole for a romantic escape, family staycation (one room sleeps 4-5) and get-togethers. Built as an extravagant folly in the 1740s and converted to a pub in 1822, this little castle has five guest bedrooms in its two castellated towers, all overlooking those views, an extensive selection of local ales and great wines at its inviting bar with open fire, fantastic menus of modern British dishes and pub classics, and a gin school and distillery at the top of its larger ‘Radway' tower.
The Castle is surrounded by incredible walks perfect for working off lunch before returning for warming drinks by a roaring fire. Rooms from £120 a night B&B + a dog friendly room (£20 extra a night per dog) on the ground floor with disabled access.
Open daily for lunch and dinner, The Castle's head chef, Pawel Neuman's seasonally-changing menus of elevated modern British cuisine with innovative touches and pub classics, use the best local suppliers and artisan makers to showcase the finest produce available within a 30-mile radius. A fabulous afternoon tea and Sunday lunch are also available. Supplementary herbs and vegetables grown within the on-site, landscaped beer garden, supply the kitchen daily.
Freespirit Pubs, a local, independent hospitality group, took over The Castle 10 years ago, and undertook a completely refurbishment of the building before re-opening in April 2014 as a destination restaurant and country pub. The Castle is also available for exclusive hire for small weddings and events. Freespirit pubs also owns The House and Number 75, Leamington Spa, The Red Lion at Hellidon, Northants, The Bell Inn at Ladbroke, Warks and The Sun Inn at Hook Norton, Oxfordshire.
